Benefits
The following benefits are available to employees of the City of Rocky Mount; certain benefits are specific to the Police Department.
Health and Medical Care: The City provides medical coverage for its employees through Aetna at a minimum cost.
Retirement and 401k: After one year of uninterrupted service, all Police Department Employees begin contributing six percent of their salary to the N.C. Local Government Employees Retirement System. Employees are eligible to make voluntary contributions to the State 401k plan at the maximum rate allowed under current regulations, and the 5% employer contributions begin immediately.
Sick and Annual Leave: Employees begin accumulating Annual and Sick leave on the date of hire.
Holidays: Officers are paid for 11 holidays per year in recognition of the following: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving (2) and Christmas (3).
Uniforms: All uniforms and equipment are furnished by the City. This includes the Smith & Wesson .40 caliber handgun, 800 mhz radio, bulletproof vest, leather gear, asp, OC spray, as well as summer and winter uniforms.
Incentive Pay:
For Veterans
The Rocky Mount Police Department's entry-level training program was approved by the NC Department of Labor as a nationally recognized Police Officer Apprenticeship Program. During the first three years of employment with the RMPD, any veteran who meets the training requirements set forth by the Police Officer Apprenticeship Program may choose to receive monthly compensation from their GI Training benefit in addition to their regular City of Rocky Mount salary.
