Lineman Appreciation Day

Lineman Appreciation Day

On April 18, 2018, Rocky Mount Public Utilities (RMPU) is joining communities across the country in celebrating National Lineman Appreciation Day. This campaign recognizes linemen, the profession of linemen, and the contributions of these brave men and women who protect public safety and work to keep the power on.

On April 10, 2013, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution recognizing April 18 as National Lineman Appreciation Day. The resolution recognizes that linemen work under dangerous conditions and put their lives on the line every day with little recognition regarding the danger of their work. Linemen are often the first responders during storms and other catastrophic events in order to make the scene safe for other public safety heroes.

“Lineman Appreciation Day gives us an opportunity to honor our linemen for safely providing electric service for our customers,” says Rich Worsinger, director of Energy Resources. “The work of a lineman is very dangerous. It often requires working long hours and being the first to respond following severe weather and emergencies. Linemen work behind the scenes to make sure our lights are on, our appliances work when we need them and our homes stay comfortable. On April 18, we want to show our linemen how much we appreciate all they do for our city and our customers.”

The city of Rocky Mount Energy Resources department currently employs 33 linemen who maintain 768 miles of overhead and underground electric transmission and distribution lines.

RMPU invites the public to thank our linemen for the work they do by posting to RMPU’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/RockyMountPublicUtilities.
