Animal Services
The Animal Services Unit was formed to maintain stray, diseased, nuisance and at-large animals within the corporate limits of Rocky Mount. Animal Services Officers have the responsibility to abate and control animal nuisances through enforcement of city ordinances and North Carolina state statutes.

An Animal Services Officer is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week for emergencies only. You may contact the Animal Shelter directly during regular business hours (252) 972-1390, or contact the Rocky Mount Police Department for after-hour emergencies (252) 972-1411.

Education
The Animal Services Unit educates, provides leadership, and offers advice for the citizens of Rocky Mount. This education is offered through lectures, videos, and demonstrations to school children, community groups, and clubs. The Animal Services Unit also educates through the Rocky Mount Police Department's Citizens Police Academy where city ordinances and Animal Services procedures are discussed and taught. Tours of the Animal Shelter are also available by calling the Animal Shelter for an appointment.
Animal Services Unit
The Animal Services Unit offers a variety of services for the community. Some of these services include retrieving stray animals that destroy public and private property, animals that run at large, or pose health or traffic hazards, or animals that may pose a threat to themselves or others. The Animal Control Unit also offers the following:

The setting of traps upon request for a variety of domestic animals as long as traps remain available.

Enforcement to ensure compliance of rabies shots for dogs and cats.

Investigate complaints of Animal Cruelty and Dog Bites.

Provide protection for animal owners as well as non-animal owners through the enforcement of state statutes and local city ordinances.

Ensuring humane treatment for all animals.

Euthanasia of animals that are injured or that comply with state guidelines.
